About The Position

The Scale Operator accurately weighs incoming and outgoing vehicles at Transfer Stations and the landfill and ensures that transaction documentation is complete. This position is a first point of contact for customers, providing customer service while enforcing landfill policies and procedures. The role maintains records for regulatory compliance, assists with traffic flow, and communicates with site staff to support safe and efficient operations. Attention to detail, reliability, and basic computer skills are essential.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D.
Basic math skills to calculate weights and fees accurately.
Ability to operate computer systems and process transactions, including credit card payments.
Strong attention to detail for maintaining records and verifying customer information.
Excellent communication and customer service skills for interacting with customers, residents, and coworkers.
Ability to observe and enforce safe work practices.
Physical ability to perform general site cleanup and routine site tasks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
If required to drive a District vehicle for business, maintain a current, valid, vehicle-appropriate driver's license from the employee's resident state.

Responsibilities

Weigh incoming and outgoing trucks to determine solid-waste tonnage.
Observe incoming trucks to ensure waste is properly covered and acceptable for receipt at the landfill or transfer station.
Verify customer residency or authorization before disposal.
Maintain accurate vehicle identification and transaction records.
Process customer payments, including credit card transactions.
Answer telephone inquiries and respond to questions from customers and Member City residents.
Follow and promote safe work practices.
Perform general site cleanup and maintenance as directed.
Ensure delivered waste complies with applicable rules, regulations, and landfill policies.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
