About The Position

ESM Prep is seeking energetic, engaging, and kind tutors in Los Angeles to work as Academic Mentors. Mentors provide one-on-one support as students prepare for college, including SAT/ACT preparation, AP exams, and guidance through their broader high school academic journey. The role emphasizes students’ holistic development and requires a passion for working with youth, along with prior tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching experience.

The position primarily serves students on the Westside of Los Angeles, with in-person sessions at the San Vicente Boulevard office and in students’ homes. Some remote work is also available. The position is part-time, with tutoring usually taking place on weekday evenings after 3 p.m. and/or weekends; a typical schedule is Sunday through Thursday. Mentors should be available for a full school year or longer.

Requirements

• Prior experience teaching or tutoring ACT/SAT.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to tutor in person 2 to 3 days a week, primarily in Brentwood and surrounding Westside areas.
• Availability for a full school year or longer.
• Reliable internet access.
• Reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience tutoring or teaching AP-level subjects.
• Expertise in additional high school subjects such as calculus, physics, history, English, Spanish, computer science, or economics, or in SSAT and/or ISEE preparation.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students one-on-one in SAT and ACT preparation.
• Prepare students for AP exams and support AP-level coursework.
• Mentor students through their overall high school academic journey and support their holistic development.
• Conduct in-person tutoring sessions at the Brentwood-area office and in students’ homes, with some remote sessions available.
• Complete training and administrative functions as needed.
