About The Position

ESM Prep is seeking energetic, engaging, and kind tutors in the Bay Area to support students holistically as mentors. Mentors work one-on-one with students preparing for college, helping them prepare for the SAT and ACT, supporting AP exam preparation, and guiding them through their broader high school academic journey. The role is part of ESM Prep, a Guidewell Education brand focused on transformational educational experiences and whole-person student support. Tutoring is primarily in person in students’ homes in the South Bay and Peninsula area, including Atherton, with some opportunity for remote work. In-person tutoring is expected 2 to 3 days a week. Tutoring usually takes place on weekday evenings after 3 p.m. and/or weekends, with a typical schedule of Sunday through Thursday. The position requires availability for a full school year or longer. Compensation is $70–$80 per hour for in-person sessions and $60–$70 per hour for remote sessions, with additional compensation for training and administrative work. The role offers a flexible schedule and a pathway to full-time work based on experience, performance, and subject range.

Requirements

Prior experience teaching or tutoring the ACT or SAT.
Bachelor’s degree.
Ability to tutor in person 2 to 3 days a week, primarily in the South Bay/Peninsula area.
Availability for in-person tutoring in students’ homes, with some remote work also possible.
Availability part-time, generally on weekday evenings after 3 p.m. and/or weekends; typical schedule is Sunday through Thursday.
Availability to tutor for a full school year or longer.
Reliable internet access.
Reliable transportation.
Passion for working with youth and previous experience tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience tutoring or teaching AP-level subjects.
Expertise in high school subjects such as calculus, physics, history, English, Spanish, computer science, or economics, and/or in SSAT or ISEE preparation.

Responsibilities

Tutor students one-on-one in preparation for the SAT and ACT.
Support students with AP exam preparation and, where qualified, AP-level coursework.
Mentor students through their overall high school academic journey.
Provide tutoring in person at students’ homes, with the opportunity to tutor remotely.
