About The Position

GoodData is hiring a San Francisco-based Sales Engineer to win new deals and grow US accounts. The Sales Engineer serves as the technical lead on US deals, independently leading customer demos and technical discussions, anticipating technical challenges, and proactively driving deal next steps. The role goes beyond standard product demonstrations: it acts as a strategic technical advisor to enterprise customers, helping them understand how GoodData’s Agentic Serving Plane—including its semantic layer, agentic AI capabilities, embedded analytics, and flexible APIs—fits into modern data architectures. The position owns the technical sales cycle, from discovery and solution design through proofs of concept, technical validation, and procurement. It also supports go-to-market initiatives and represents GoodData at customer and industry events, working with US-based commercial teams and collaborating closely with European engineering, product, and technical sales colleagues. This hybrid role is based in San Francisco, with in-person office work two to three days per week. It involves up to 20% travel within North America, occasional travel to Europe, and regular early-morning availability for collaboration with European teams. The annual base salary range is $150,000–$170,000, plus variable incentive compensation and equity eligibility.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Solution Architect, Field CTO, or Forward-Deployed Engineer; ideally selling B2B data, analytics, AI solutions, or developer platforms to US mid-market and enterprise buyers.
  • A proactive, ownership-oriented approach to anticipating deal needs and driving next steps independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage the technical aspects of complex sales opportunities from discovery and proof of concept through technical validation and close.
  • Ability to lead live demonstrations and C-level discussions, handle challenging questions, and steer meetings effectively.
  • Solid grounding in analytics and data, including SQL, dimensional modeling, semantic layers, and cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, and Postgres.
  • Hands-on ability to build prototypes using Python, SQL, REST APIs, SDKs, and/or React/TypeScript, and to use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex in daily work.
  • Practical knowledge of AI and agentic systems, including LLMs, agents, MCP, RAG, tool use, evaluation, and guardrails, and the ability to distinguish practical capabilities from hype.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing briefs, recommendations, and handoffs that distributed colleagues can act on without a follow-up call.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GoodData or comparable platforms such as Looker, Power BI, or Sigma.
  • Experience selling AI, analytics, or data-related solutions to SaaS companies.
  • Experience building AI applications, agents, or copilots beyond the prototype stage.
  • An existing network in the Bay Area data and AI community, or a history of speaking at events such as Data + AI Summit, Snowflake Summit, or local meetups.
  • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams across time zones.
  • AWS cloud experience, including marketplace and co-selling motions.
  • Early-stage experience helping build a presales function in a new region or market.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical sales cycle.
  • Lead technical discovery by evaluating customer business goals, data stacks, AI roadmaps, integration requirements, and security criteria.
  • Design tailored solution architectures, data modeling strategies, and AI or agentic workflows, and turn them into actionable recommendations, interactive demos, and prototypes.
  • Deliver customized product demonstrations and in-depth technical workshops for prospect stakeholders and executive teams.
  • Support go-to-market initiatives, including technical outbound content, customer expansion playbooks, and workshops to drive new customer acquisition and cross-selling.
  • Drive proofs of concept by defining success criteria, building PoCs, managing check-ins, and delivering final technical readouts.
  • Partner with Account Executives on deal strategy, opportunity qualification, mutual action plans, and technical validation.
  • Manage technical procurement, including RFPs, RFIs, security questionnaires, and architecture reviews, in coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Present at conferences, meetups, partner events, and webinars, including talks and live demonstrations.
  • Represent GoodData at customer dinners, executive briefings, and booth sessions.
  • Work with US data ecosystem partners, such as Snowflake, Databricks, and cloud providers, on joint demonstrations and co-selling.
  • Collaborate with US-based Account Executives, Solution Engineering, and Customer Success, while serving as a technical bridge to European sales, engineering, and product leaders.
  • Work with global teams with regular early-morning availability, generally starting at 7:00 AM PT and occasionally as early as 6:00 AM PT.
  • Travel up to 20% within North America for customer visits, conferences, and partner events, with occasional trips to Europe.
