About The Position

Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is seeking a Sales Clerk in West Haven, Connecticut. Since 1946, VCS has served Veterans enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare system. The Sales Clerk assists customers with locating products and provides product information, processes sales transactions, restocks and labels merchandise, and keeps the store clean and organized. The position requires a current, valid REAL ID. Employment includes a one-year trial period, with continued employment subject to written certification that it advances the public interest.

Requirements

• A current, valid REAL ID is required.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic math skills for handling transactions.
• Ability to stand and walk constantly and bend frequently.
• Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must register for Selective Service.
• Subject to a background/security investigation.
• Must serve a one-year trial period; continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest.

Nice To Haves

• One year of service-industry experience is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with retail software and point-of-sale systems.

Responsibilities
