About The Position

The Sales Associate is part of Goodwill’s retail operations team and provides courteous customer service while helping maintain merchandise and store areas. The role includes placing merchandise on the sales floor, operating the register and payment equipment accurately, assisting customers with merchandise selections, and completing housekeeping and security-related duties. Team members work collaboratively and may have opportunities for professional growth.

Requirements

• Effectively communicate with customers and Goodwill associates.
• Provide exceptional customer service.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Perform basic math skills.
• Stand for prolonged periods, up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift.
• Bend and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.

Nice To Haves

• At least six months of previous work experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working in a retail environment.
• Excellent customer service-related skills.
• Working knowledge of a cash register.
• Complete fluency in English and multilingual ability.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and courteous service to customers in the store, outside the store, and by phone.
• Ensure merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Ring items accurately on the register.
• Handle cash accurately, including making change and operating and maintaining the cash register, check and charge card machine, and calculator.
• Maintain knowledge of merchandise and answer customer questions courteously and promptly.
• Keep floor merchandise neat and orderly, including racks, shelves, bins, and hangers, and help customers with purchase selections.
• Maintain a clean, professional appearance.
• Keep the register area orderly and clean.
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and use security practices when necessary.
• Perform general housekeeping and store upkeep, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting restrooms and dressing rooms.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
