About The Position

Sells general merchandise using professional selling techniques and works with the sales team to provide service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. For Minimarts operating a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, assists with its full operation, including opening and closing, preparing and displaying products, replenishing goods, and cleaning stations and equipment. No experience is required. High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Greet and engage customers, assist with merchandise selection, suggest complementary items, and explain extended product warranty coverage, benefits, and prices where applicable.
Interact with customers and coworkers in a friendly, professional manner, follow NEX dress code and uniform standards, and support sales team members.
Learn merchandise details, including setup, use, care, characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage, and communicate product information to customers.
Keep assigned areas stocked and merchandise neatly arranged; communicate stock and customer feedback to supervisors or store managers; participate in department meetings and exchange ideas for improving service, performance, and sales.
Complete sales transactions efficiently and thank customers for their patronage.
Perform cash register transactions, including cash, charge, check, gift certificate, and layaway transactions, accurately and according to procedure.
Inform customers about upcoming sales and Navy Exchange services; offer NEXCARD accounts and explain their benefits.
Learn and apply NEX store policies and Richter Merchandising System functions; handle returns and customer problems tactfully and efficiently.
Maintain awareness in assigned areas and provide customer service to help deter theft.
Unpack, stage, and move merchandise; assist with store displays and periodic inventories.
Complete paperwork relating to merchandise inventory movement, price adjustments, customer returns, and cash register operations accurately and completely.
Participate in applicable commission and gainsharing sales incentive programs when eligible.
Lift up to 25 pounds as required by job duties, including assisting customers and stocking merchandise.
For Minimarts with a Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, open and close the bar and ensure equipment is turned on or off as appropriate.
Preheat and display products in the heated display merchandiser.
Replenish products and condiments, including napkins, straws, cups, lids, creamer, and sugar.
Time-date products remaining at close of business when placing them in the refrigerator.
Clean small wares and equipment throughout the day and at closing, and time-date food and beverage products to maintain quality and food integrity.
Check refrigerator and freezer temperatures at least three times daily to ensure equipment maintains the required temperature.
Attend an initial four-hour food safety training session and annual refresher training if required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
