About The Position

BronxWorks Homebase provides housing retention and stabilization services to households in the South Bronx, including case management, public benefits advocacy, referrals, mediation, and financial literacy workshops. The Safety Monitor helps secure the premises, control access, conduct facility patrols, maintain order, and promote safety. The role requires professional, effective responses to client conflicts, medical emergencies, and situations involving child abuse or neglect, as well as coordination with supervisors, police, and other emergency services. The Safety Monitor may serve as a Fire Safety Coordinator or Fire Guard and must participate in training and staff meetings. Additional duties and extra hours or overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Requirements

New York State Security Guard Registration Card.
16 Hour On-The-Job Security Guard Training Certificate.
New York Fire Department Certificate of Fitness as Fire Guard.
Ability to write clear and concise incident reports.
Engaging personality and attention to detail.
Strong oral and written communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard business technology.
Within three months of hire, obtain and maintain an FDNY F-03 Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Indoor Place of Assembly, CPR/First Aid, Narcan administration, and CPI Training/Certification.
Ability to use a computer as needed.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods.
Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
Ability to travel in New York City boroughs and adjacent counties via public transportation.
Ability, if required for home visits or field work, to travel at least one mile within a reasonable amount of time in all types of weather, including inclement weather.
TB test required within the first 120 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

First Aid/CPR Certificate.
High school diploma or GED (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

Ensure the security of the premises and perform access control.
Perform regular and frequent foot patrols of the entire facility.
Enforce facility, BronxWorks, and Department of Homeless Services policies.
Promptly advise appropriate supervisors of problems or concerns.
Maintain order and promote safety.
Act professionally and serve as a role model for clients, especially during crises or conflicts.
Respond appropriately and effectively to physical or verbal altercations between clients.
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
Respond appropriately to situations of child abuse and neglect.
Act as a liaison with police and other emergency services.
Act as the designated Fire Safety Coordinator or Fire Guard as needed.
Make formal notifications as required.
Participate in all training and staff meetings.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work extra hours and/or overtime as needed based on operational needs.
