About The Position

The Route Planner serves as the link between sales and distribution, translating daily customer orders into delivery routes. The role involves regular communication with the sales team to understand customer and branch needs and with the distribution team to understand operational capabilities. The Route Planner uses sound judgment, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills to create delivery routes, manage branch expectations, and produce efficient routes, loading plans, and daily reports before warehouse start times. This is a full-time position in Melville, NY, scheduled Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until finished, with flexibility to work weekends as needed. Minimal travel is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
1 year of experience with dispatching or routing in a logistics or supply chain management environment.
2 years of experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
1 year of experience with Descartes Transportation Suite or similar routing software.
Knowledge of DOT regulations.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with branch sales and operations leaders.
Review the previous day's route plan and gather adjustments.
Confirm the trucks and drivers available for daily routes.
Route daily orders efficiently according to established business rules using RoadNet or Descartes Route Planner.
Build pallets and load trucks efficiently using Fleetloader or Black Box/Magic Logic.
Provide daily reporting needed to manage delivery routes to the branches.
Apply knowledge of DOT regulations to route delivery teams safely.
