About The Position

Spee Dee Delivery is seeking a Route Driver in Des Moines, Iowa. The driver represents the company while delivering and picking up freight from customers and shippers. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the route is complete. An estimated 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week; weekend overtime is voluntary and may be needed. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other relevant qualifications, skills, and internal equity. The position is full-time and nonexempt. The driver must be able to operate a manual-transmission vehicle or be willing to learn, provide good customer service, and work independently. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license with a good driving record that meets company standards, and be able to pass a DOT physical. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Physical duties include bending, lifting, twisting, climbing stairs, and moving freight on and off the company vehicle, including lifting up to 75 pounds. Freight may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals. A pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check are required.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
Collect payments for certain delivered packages.
Verify pickup contents against shipping papers.
Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
