About The Position

The ROI Specialist supports Release of Information (ROI) requests for patient medical records at a specified client site. The role reviews requests and obtains matching patient records from electronic, off-site, or physical sources in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Employees work at client facilities throughout the United States. The job description notes that assigned essential functions may not encompass every task that may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
One or more years of experience entering data into computer systems.
Proficiency using computer applications.
Experience using the internet.
Ability to work independently and meet production goals established by MRO.
Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated success responding to customer inquiries.
Demonstrated success working in an environment requiring attention to detail.
Proven track record of dependability.

Nice To Haves

Prior Release of Information work experience in a physician’s office or HIM Department.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations is preferred.

Responsibilities

Review requestor information and determine which records may be released in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Obtain pertinent patient data from electronic, off-site, or physical records that match the patient request.
Answer phone calls concerning ROI issues.
When necessary, respond to walk-in customers requesting medical records and log customer-provided information in the ROI On-Line database.
When necessary, process physician-office requests on a priority basis and fax information to the physician office.
Log medical record requests into the ROI On-Line database.
Scan medical records into the ROI On-Line database.
Comply with client-site facility policies and regulations.
At specified sites, handle and record cash payments for requests.
Perform other duties as assigned.
