Robotic Weld Operator

Mobile Track Solutions LLC•Elkader, IA

About The Position

The Robotic Weld Technician sets up, operates, and troubleshoots robotic welding equipment to build mechanical structures and parts precisely. The role assists with integration, start-up, and maintenance of plant-floor welding equipment, including weld controls and MIG welding robots. The position is full-time, with flexible scheduling arrangements available. The technician identifies and performs appropriate robotic welding parameters and procedures, creates and modifies robotic welding programs, calculates welding-cell cycle times, and inspects completed welds and measurements against specifications. The role also includes blueprint-based quality checks and, as needed, manual welding and related metal preparation and finishing tasks. The technician follows safety protocols, maintains equipment and a clean work area, and safely handles parts and sub-assemblies using lifting and rigging equipment. The role requires adequate training and experience. An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferable. Related experience with robotic welding applications is highly preferred; professional certification in robotic welding, such as an AWS welding certificate, is also preferred.

Requirements

  • Adequate training and experience.
  • Proven experience as a welder.
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and computer skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and seamlessly to technology changes.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and willingness to use protective equipment and clothing.
  • Skill and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and communicate ideas and plans accurately and effectively.
  • Ability to walk and stand constantly, and to climb, bend, kneel, and crouch or squat frequently.
  • Ability to lift or carry 50 pounds frequently, more than 20 pounds constantly, and more than 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Related work experience with robotic welding applications.
  • Professional certification in robotic welding applications, such as an AWS welding certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and perform the correct robotic welding parameters, welding procedures, and operations.
  • Troubleshoot part fit-up problems.
  • Create robotic welding programs, modify existing programs, and calculate welding-cell cycle times.
  • Inspect welds and check critical measurements upon completion to ensure they meet specifications and criteria.
  • Visually inspect piece parts for quality and verify quantities against blueprints; report discrepancies to the team lead or supervisor.
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to execute work to specification.
  • When needed, set welding machines to the correct settings and weld to print specifications while following procedures to control warping.
  • Weld small and large components in vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
  • Trim metal components using a hand torch or hand plasma.
  • Deburr parts and operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
  • Monitor the work environment for hazards and report concerns.
  • Follow safety protocols, including wearing required protective equipment and clothing.
  • Maintain equipment in a safe condition.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and jib poles and use rigging, hoists, and chains to maneuver parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Maintain an assigned work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Fill in as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
