Robotic Weld Programmer

Mobile Track Solutions•Elkader, IA

About The Position

The Robotic Weld Programmer writes, tests, and modifies robot path instructions and welding sequences for standard production parts using available online and offline programming software. Working within established guidelines, the programmer monitors weld quality, makes minor adjustments to parameters such as travel speed and voltage, and edits programs as needed. The role also supports routine equipment maintenance and helps ensure completed welds meet MTS quality standards. The position includes assisting with online programming and basic pendant operations, troubleshooting recurring errors, supporting robotic calibration and data backups, and monitoring automated weld quality and cell cycle times. The programmer may operate equipment by loading, running, and unloading parts to meet production demand, and must follow standard practices and safe-operation protocols. The role also reviews robotic weld fixtures for quality and requires the capability to perform all Operator II functions.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with robotic software, such as Roboplan or Roboguide.
  • Proficiency with program text editing.
  • Previous robotic troubleshooting and PLC skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience starting up a new robot, configuring full robot I/O, using simulation software, loading programs, diagnosing errors and faults, and programming paths.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and to communicate ideas and plans accurately and effectively.
  • Self-directed.

Nice To Haves

  • A two-year or associate degree, or technical school certification in a related field.
  • Robotic welding programming experience, such as with Cloos or Fanuc.
  • Manual welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with online programming using basic pendant operations.
  • Identify and adjust weld points to correct weld alignment or quality issues.
  • Observe and verify proper equipment travel and accurate execution of commands.
  • Understand and use programming language, seam-sense, and touch-sensing commands.
  • Mentor, support, and train robotic weld operators.
  • Clear fault codes and perform basic troubleshooting on recurring errors.
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance with the maintenance department as required.
  • Assist with basic robotic calibration and required data backups, as applicable.
  • Monitor automated weld quality through incoming-preparation inspections and visual checks.
  • Track cell cycle times and report deviations from standard to the programming lead.
  • Escalate parameters or settings that have drifted from standards.
  • Operate machines through loading, running, and unloading to support production demand as required.
  • Follow standard practices and safe-operation protocols.
  • Review and support maintenance of robotic weld fixtures for quality purposes.
  • Perform all Operator II functions.
