Robotic Weld Engineer - Night Shift

International Motors, LLC•San Antonio, TX
•$78,400 - $117,600•Onsite

About The Position

International Motors is hiring a Robotic Weld Engineer to support its manufacturing operations in San Antonio, Texas. The role is the primary welding engineering resource on the night shift, working hands-on on the production floor to troubleshoot robotic automation and welding challenges, minimize downtime, restore production, and implement lasting improvements to safety, quality, and operational performance. The position supports FANUC robotic systems and optimization of robotic weld cells. The night production schedule is Monday through Thursday, 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM, with production planned to begin in early 2027. This is a salaried position supporting a manufacturing operation. Employees are expected to provide operational support as needed, which may require work outside normal production hours, including extended shifts, production startup activities, recovery efforts, and occasional weekend support. A 10% shift differential applies upon transitioning to the night shift schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of product manufacturing experience, or a master's degree and no experience, or at least 3 years of product manufacturing experience.
  • For candidates other than current employees, unrestricted legal authorization to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, refugee, or asylee; employment-related work sponsorship is not anticipated.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with manual and robotic welding in production or fabrication, including weld repair and technical oversight of repairs.
  • Experience diagnosing weld defects, including cold welds, holes, and missing welds, and leading containment, repair, and permanent corrective action.
  • Experience with destructive testing, weld-quality validation, and process data to identify failure modes and prevent recurrence.
  • Hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and repairing FANUC robots in robotic welding applications.
  • Experience adjusting weld schedules, process parameters, and fit-up to improve weld quality and process stability.
  • Manufacturing experience in automotive, truck, heavy equipment, or high-volume body shop operations.
  • Experience safely troubleshooting industrial electrical systems from 24 VDC to 480 VAC, as well as pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs (SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix) using RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, and Studio 5000.
  • Ability to lead root cause analysis and communicate corrective actions across Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering.
  • Experience independently resolving production-floor welding issues and making sound technical decisions through containment, repair, and resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the welding technical expert on the night shift, resolving robotic and manual welding issues hands-on on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot robotic weld cells, weld schedules, process parameters, fit-up, and equipment issues.
  • Lead weld repair and containment when defects threaten production, applying hands-on manual welding expertise.
  • Ensure repairs for cold welds, holes, missing welds, and other defects follow approved methods and quality standards.
  • Own weld tear-down evaluations, use findings to identify failure modes, and drive corrective actions.
  • Lead root cause analysis and permanent corrective action for weld failures and fit-up concerns.
  • Optimize welding processes to improve weld quality, cycle time, throughput, uptime, safety, and cost.
  • Read and apply weld schedules, drawings, specifications, and process requirements.
  • Support robot programming and troubleshooting.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and suppliers on welding issues and improvements.
  • Support launches, equipment commissioning, process validation, and production readiness to establish stable welding processes as operations grow.

Benefits

  • 10% shift differential upon transitioning to the night shift work schedule.
