About The Position

Catholic Medical Center is hiring an RN Student Nurse Extern for its PRN Float Pool. The extern is a valued member of the nursing team who gains hands-on experience exploring the Registered Nurse role while supporting safe, compassionate patient care. The position offers opportunities to develop skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities while progressing through an RN nursing program. The role includes learning and development in partnership with a supervisor or preceptor.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in and attending an accredited RN nursing program.
• Completion of a Nursing Fundamentals course.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
• Previous experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
