About The Position

The Nurse Extern delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the extern’s skills and training and the needs of the department. The role also supports a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and may perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved. Parkridge East Hospital is a 120+ bed facility in East Ridge providing medical and surgical services, including orthopedics, robotic surgery, emergency care, obstetrical care, complex gynecological procedures, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The position is part of the Float Pool.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, obtained and maintained within time frames required by hospital policy.
Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program and in good standing.
May be considered for Nurse Extern after completing the first nursing semester, or as a CNA in the first semester of an RN program.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the patient populations served in the department.
Communicate pertinent information to appropriate individuals.
Deliver compassionate, holistic care while supporting the rights and dignity of all patients.
Document patient care information in the appropriate computer screens.
Assist assigned patients with activities of daily living.
Assist nursing staff with delegated basic patient care services under RN supervision.
Help maintain a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
