Nurse Extern PRN Float Pool
About The Position
Medical City Alliance is hiring a Nurse Extern for its PRN Float Pool. The Nurse Extern is a valued member of the nursing team who gains hands-on experience while exploring the scope of the Registered Nurse role. The position supports safe, compassionate patient care and helps the extern build skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities while progressing through a nursing program. The Nurse Extern provides basic patient care, assists with nursing tasks within their competency, documents care, communicates updates to the nursing team, supports patients and families, and helps maintain a clean and safe care environment. The extern is also expected to participate in learning opportunities and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
Requirements
- Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 30 days of employment start date.
- Be enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program.
- Have completed foundation, fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and promote comfort and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping the environment organized.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
