RN Student Nurse Extern Float Pool
About The Position
Johnston-Willis Hospital is hiring a Nurse Extern to join its nursing team. The role provides hands-on experience across the scope of the Registered Nurse role while the employee progresses through an RN nursing program. The Nurse Extern helps deliver safe, compassionate patient care and develops skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities. The position includes supporting patients with daily activities and basic nursing procedures, documenting care, communicating with the nursing team, and helping patients and families understand care plans. The extern also contributes to a clean, safe care environment and participates in learning and career development with a supervisor or preceptor.
Requirements
- Actively enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program.
- Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
- No previous work experience required.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and promote comfort and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as competency develops.
- Document care accurately and provide timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
