RN Student Nurse Extern Behavioral Health Float
About The Position
Chippenham Hospital is seeking an RN Student Nurse Extern for its Behavioral Health Float role. As a Nurse Extern, you will be part of the nursing team, gain hands-on experience with the scope of the Registered Nurse role, and build skills and confidence as you progress through your nursing program. You will help provide safe, compassionate patient care while developing your professional capabilities. Chippenham Hospital is a 460+ bed acute care facility on the Southside of Richmond and is part of HCA Healthcare. The hospital provides care in areas including orthopedics, joint care, behavioral health, and cardiovascular care, and is a Level I Burn Center and Level I Trauma Center.
Requirements
- Actively attending an accredited RN program.
- Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
- No previous work experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.
