Nurse Extern PRN Float Pool
About The Position
As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate patient care while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program. This PRN position is with TriCities Hospital’s Float Pool. The role includes assisting patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene; performing nursing tasks and basic procedures as competency develops; documenting care and communicating with the nursing team; supporting patients and families with care-plan understanding; maintaining clean and safe patient areas; and participating in learning and career-development opportunities with a supervisor or preceptor.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in an RN program.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and help ensure comfort and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery.
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection-prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping the environment organized.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career-development plan.
