About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

The role is with the float pool at St. David's North Austin Medical Center. The position is PRN. No travel is required.

Requirements

• Associate degree or bachelor's degree.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• No experience required.
• No travel required.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living, vital-sign checks, mobility support, comfort, and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency grow.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance related to health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection-prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
