About The Position

Medical City Fort Worth is hiring a Nurse Extern for its PRN Float Pool. The Nurse Extern is a valued member of the nursing team who gains hands-on experience with the scope of the Registered Nurse role while completing a nursing program. The role supports safe, compassionate patient care and helps the extern develop skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities as their education progresses.

The position includes helping patients with daily needs and basic nursing tasks, documenting care, communicating with the nursing team, supporting patients and families, and maintaining safe and organized patient areas. The extern also participates in learning opportunities and works with a supervisor or preceptor on a personal career development plan.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of foundation, fundamentals, or Med Surg I clinical is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Help patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as competency develops.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance related to health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
