Nurse Extern PRN Float Pool
About The Position
Medical City Denton is hiring a Nurse Extern for its PRN Float Pool. The Nurse Extern is part of the nursing team and gains hands-on experience exploring the scope of the Registered Nurse role. The position supports safe, compassionate patient care while building skills and confidence for more advanced responsibilities as the employee progresses through a nursing program. The Nurse Extern provides essential patient care, performs basic nursing tasks as competency develops, documents care, and communicates with the nursing team. The role also supports patients and families, helps maintain a safe and clean care environment, and participates in learning and career-development opportunities with a supervisor or preceptor.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program.
- Must have completed Foundations, Fundamentals, or Med Surg I.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Professional communication skills.
- Meet scheduling requirements: one 12-hour shift per week or four 12-hour shifts per month.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, check vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection-prevention practices and managing equipment.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career plan.
