About The Position

The RN - Neuroscience provides safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients with complex neurological and medical-surgical conditions on Akron General’s private 22-bed Neuro Med/Surg Unit. The unit cares for patients with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and patients recovering after craniotomy and a stay in the NSICU. The nurse supports patients throughout their care journey, advocates for them, recognizes changes in condition, and coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team.

The position offers opportunities to develop specialized neurological expertise, pursue certifications and leadership development, receive mentorship, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. The caregiver works nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., including every other weekend and three holidays per year.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for the assigned patient population.
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately.
• Develop and update goals, involve patients and families in care, and serve as a patient advocate.
• Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document care.
• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient and family outcomes, contribute to improving care, and participate in the quality improvement process.
• Delegate tasks and serve as a resource person.
• Pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification and licensure, and obtain certifications required for the unit.
