Revenue Cycle Patient Representative

About The Position

This position manages patient registrations in Acute Revenue Cycle Patient Access Departments. As the first point of contact for most Centra patients, the representative provides customer and financial services, including pre-registration, registration, upfront collections and payment plans, medical necessity checking, and financial counseling. Patients are referred to appropriate resources for follow-up as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Proficient typing and spelling.
Proficient computer skills, including multitasking with data entry while using multiple computer applications.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service.
Attention to detail and critical-thinking skills.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Register patients for hospital services, conduct registration interviews, and accurately collect patient information and demographics in accordance with Patient Access standards.
Verify and review insurance plans and coordinate benefits on behalf of patients.
Manage point-of-service payments, including collecting and posting payments, providing receipts, and balancing transactions each shift.
Obtain completed authorizations and notifications of admissions for patients.
Assist patients with financial clearance by communicating financial responsibility through estimates, setting up payment plans, and/or referring patients to financial counselors.
Respond appropriately to phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication.
Promote a positive working environment and maintain open, positive communication.
Comply with governmental healthcare and billing regulations and standards, including HIPAA, TJC, CMS, and EMTALA, as well as Centra and Acute Revenue Cycle department policies and procedures.
Provide courteous service to stakeholders by resolving problems, responding to inquiries, and following up to develop and strengthen customer relationships.
Cover other shifts and departments as needed within Acute Revenue Cycle Departments.
Assist in training new hires as needed.
