About The Position

The Retail Security Guard helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and vendors at Summit Mall in Fairlawn, Ohio. The role calls for attention to detail, professionalism, and a customer-first mindset. The schedule is overnight Friday through Monday, and duties may vary based on site needs.

The guard patrols assigned areas or maintains a fixed post, monitors activity and security systems, manages access and traffic, responds to incidents, and completes required reports. The position also supports safety compliance, loss prevention, and customer service while maintaining a visible and approachable presence. Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to safety are expected.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–6 months of security or life-safety experience.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to stay alert and respond calmly in emergency situations.
• Reliable and punctual, with the ability to follow directions.
• Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks.

Nice To Haves

• Prior security or customer-facing experience.
• Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, or access control systems.
• High attentiveness and situational awareness.
• Dependable and team-oriented; able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas or maintain a fixed post to monitor activity.
• Control access points and manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Identify and report suspicious activity, incidents, or safety concerns.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, and on-site incidents.
• Monitor CCTV cameras and security systems.
• Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
• Follow post orders, company policies, and safety procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols.
• Inspect the property for safety risks, including fire hazards and equipment issues.
• Support loss prevention and recommend safety improvements.
• Greet and assist customers, employees, and visitors professionally; provide directions and support as needed.
• Maintain a visible, approachable on-site presence.
• Arrive on time in full uniform and remain engaged and proactive throughout the shift.
• Follow all safety, training, and compliance requirements.
