About The Position

Kelley’s Market in Freeport is hiring Retail Sales Associates to provide friendly customer service and help keep the convenience store running smoothly. The hands-on role includes cashier transactions, stocking shelves and coolers, and maintaining a clean, welcoming store. Associates help customers with everyday purchases, from morning coffee to evening stops.

The position offers $15–$18 per hour, based on relevant experience, knowledge, skills, education, and certifications, plus an additional $3 per hour for hours worked between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Full-time and part-time positions are available. Kelley’s Market is part of Kelley Williamson Company, a family-owned business serving Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin since 1926.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Provide friendly, dependable customer service in a busy retail environment.
• Communicate clearly and work effectively with team members and store leadership.
• Use basic math skills to handle cash and process transactions accurately.
• Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Stand for extended periods.
• Frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Work in coolers, freezers, and outdoor conditions.
• Obtain an alcohol sales operator license where required.

Nice To Haves

• Previous work in retail, a convenience store, or a gas station.
• Experience as a cashier or in another customer service role.
• Experience handling cash or completing shift reports.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient service.
• Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system; process purchases and refunds; and handle cash accurately.
• Answer customer questions about products, prices, and promotions.
• Stock and organize shelves, coolers, freezers, and merchandise displays.
• Keep the sales floor, restrooms, and exterior areas clean, including fuel pumps and the car wash where applicable.
• Maintain clean and stocked Kelley’s Café food and beverage areas and follow food safety procedures.
• Complete shift paperwork and assist with cash and safe reconciliation.
• Follow safety, security, and cash-handling procedures.
• Communicate customer concerns, equipment problems, and other issues to store leadership.
• Work with the team to keep daily store operations running smoothly.
