About The Position

The Retail District Manager plans and leads the activities of all stores within the assigned area, with full profit-and-loss responsibility, while following company objectives and policies to achieve divisional and regional goals. The role leads store teams, supports Dollar General’s mission and values, and works to improve sales, customer service, inventory management, productivity, and operational performance.

The position identifies and develops business opportunities across the area, communicates divisional and regional priorities to store teams, and supports employee recruitment, selection, training, and development. It requires weekly travel in a company-provided vehicle, with limited overnight stays. A current driver’s license and acceptable driving history are required.

Requirements

• Four or more years of retail management experience with progressively greater responsibility, managing multi-unit operations in retail, grocery, or convenience store operations with full P&L responsibility.
• Demonstrated results-oriented leadership, including the ability to model employee development and uphold the company’s mission and values.
• Demonstrated record of achieving performance goals and objectives.
• Financial analysis skills sufficient to interpret operating statements and other financial reporting data, manage budgets, and control inventory.
• Ability to produce results by leveraging resources, controlling expenses, managing merchandise, and defining and communicating clear expectations.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with flexibility and adaptability.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including commitment to superior customer service, appropriate responses under pressure, and sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a team using a participative management style.
• Current driver’s license and acceptable driving history.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Big-box retail management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop business opportunities in areas such as distribution flow, merchandising displays, store growth, real estate site selection, recruiting, training, employee relations, customer service, and systems implementation.
• Communicate divisional and regional priorities consistently and effectively to store teams.
• Travel weekly in a company-provided vehicle, with limited overnight stays.
