About The Position

The Retail Assistant Manager works closely with the Retail Manager in day-to-day store operations. The role supports sales, customer service, merchandising, inventory, cash accountability, and employee training. The Assistant Manager manages the gift shop when the Retail Manager is absent and performs other duties as assigned. This is a full-time seasonal position for Spring/Summer 2027, beginning in February 2027, at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge. The starting wage is $22.00 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent combination of experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with management, staff, affiliated-company employees, and outside business associates.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
Strong organizational and follow-up skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under pressure, and prioritize workload.
Ability to accurately use industry-standard computer software and learn inventory systems software.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Ability to quickly and thoroughly learn company-specific products and services.
Ability to regularly push, pull, carry, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift greater weights.
Ability to maintain balance on unsteady or uneven surfaces and ladders, and occasionally negotiate stairs.
Sufficient fine and gross motor skills to operate computers and other equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

Manage cash, employee attendance, revenue assurance, and store opening and closing.
Help maintain a safe, clean, and engaging store layout and merchandising.
Help customers find suitable products and handle customer requests efficiently and courteously.
Implement strategies to improve customer service, increase store sales, and improve profitability.
Assist the Retail Manager with product evaluation, purchasing, and planning decisions.
Assist with employee training, development, and motivation.
Educate customers about products and services.
Assist with in-store merchandising.
Order, receive, and maintain inventory.
Open and/or close the store as needed.
Ensure daily and weekly tasks are completed by the gift shop and sales associates.
Manage the gift shop in the Retail Manager’s absence.
Maintain retail stock inventories between the warehouse, main building, and other applicable areas.
Work with the accounting department to provide cash accountability.
Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
