About The Position

The Tailor/Seamstress sews garments to repair them or alter them to customers’ preferences and operates sewing equipment. The role also provides garment-fit and care advice, supports an exceptional customer experience, and performs other duties as needed. The position is full-time in Macy’s King of Prussia store.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and share information with diverse groups of customers and peers.
Resourcefulness and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work a flexible retail schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds; stand for at least two consecutive hours; and perform frequent movement, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and ladder climbing.
Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on sewing machines.
Ability to frequently use computers and other technology, including handheld equipment and cash registers.

Responsibilities

Perform basic garment alterations, including adjustments to sleeves, backs, sides, collars, bodices, shoulder pads, waists, hems, lengths, and cuffs.
Make minor garment repairs, such as replacing buttons, mending seams, and replacing hems.
Provide an exceptional customer experience and prioritize the customer.
Advise customers on garment fit and care.
Write alteration tickets that record the requested garment alterations.
Press and steam garments before returning them to customers.
Maintain knowledge of styles, fits, and fabrics to better serve customers.
Maintain records for the alterations department.
Inform the team leader or CSX manager of supply needs arising during daily operations.
Perform more complex customer fittings as needed.
Follow shortage programs and procedures.
Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality.
Operate and perform basic maintenance on sewing machines.
Use computers and other technology, including handheld equipment and cash registers, and process register transactions.
