Residential Counselor - Full Time/Part Time
About The Position
Evolve Treatment Centers is seeking a Residential Counselor for a six-bed teen residential treatment center. The counselor provides supervision and support to up to six adolescents receiving 30–60 days of residential treatment for mental health and substance abuse concerns. The role supports clients’ daily activities and facilitates groups, while contributing to a safe, constructive, and therapeutic community. The work is described as challenging and rewarding, with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on teens and their families. The ideal candidate is dedicated, flexible, and comfortable adapting to the changing nature of residential treatment. Residential Counselors are expected to be patient, resilient, reliable team players who maintain appropriate professional boundaries. The role may involve exposure to COVID or working with clients who have COVID; Evolve follows applicable state and local PPE requirements and safety guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- All schedules require working at least one weekend shift.
- Must be patient, resilient, reliable, flexible, and able to work as part of a team.
- Must maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
Nice To Haves
- College coursework or a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working with teens.
- Experience working in a behavioral healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support and supervision to clients experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues.
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with clients while maintaining professional boundaries and following policies and procedures.
- Monitor the milieu, client behavior, activities, and safety.
- Participate in activities with clients, including hikes, equine therapy, surf therapy, and fitness groups.
- Help create a constructive therapeutic community in accordance with center policies.
- Conduct and facilitate psychoeducation groups and recreational activities.
- Perform crisis management and interventions as needed.
- Demonstrate model behaviors.
- Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of shift activities.
- Oversee and participate in mealtimes and help clients with life skills such as laundry, dishes, and making beds.
