Residential Counselor, Full-Time
About The Position
Options for Community Living, Inc. is hiring a full-time Residential Counselor to provide support to residents living with mental health diagnoses. The role supports residents’ personal choices and helps them live, learn, and develop their potential by training and assisting them with activities of daily living. Work is in person in Port Jefferson Station, New York, for 35 hours per week. The schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday, 1:00 PM–9:00 PM. The stated salary range is $36,400–$43,680 per year ($20.00–$24.00 per hour). A $500 sign-on bonus is offered. The position is non-exempt.
Requirements
- Passion for assisting people diagnosed with mental illness.
- Ability to work as a self-starter and stay well organized.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, valid auto insurance, and access to a vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Participate in planning and evaluating individual service plans and regularly monitor plan objectives.
- Write weekly progress notes on service plans.
- Train and assist residents with activities of daily living, including household maintenance.
- Oversee medication maintenance and assist residents in developing self-medication skills as needed.
- Provide case management and follow-up services.
- Provide transportation to residents as needed.
- Occasionally attend team meetings and discharge meetings.
- Conduct household maintenance checks and repairs.
- Conduct fire drills at the community residence as needed.
- Notify the Program Supervisor or Program Manager of medical or psychiatric emergencies.
