The Resident Monitor oversees residents during an assigned shift to support safety, security, and compliance with house rules. The role maintains accurate records and logs, helps keep the housing facility neat and orderly, and serves as an example of grace through relationships with and encouragement of Emergency Refuge residents. The position is based at The Salvation Army Greenville, SC Area Command, and pays $10.25 per hour. The Resident Monitor completes required paperwork and enters information into the HMIS database; monitors residents and reinforces policies and procedures with the aim of instruction and development rather than punishment; opens and closes house doors at designated times; assigns and checks residents’ housekeeping and other duties; conducts campus security checks and documents activity; performs breath alcohol checks on residents entering the shelter; and inspects property brought into the facility for compliance with house rules. Work takes place in a transient lodging environment that may involve temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and dust, under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions. The role involves frequent changes among sitting, standing, and walking, usually within the same building, and a limited amount of lifting or carrying light objects under 25 pounds for 5–10% of work time. Employees must meet attendance requirements. The Salvation Army describes its work as serving its mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Employees are expected not to undermine the organization’s religious mission.
