About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring counselors for a new inpatient extended care rehabilitation facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The Resident in Counseling will provide individualized, evidence-based addiction treatment and support clients throughout treatment and aftercare. The role includes clinical care for an assigned caseload, crisis response, accurate documentation, and collaboration with the clinical director, treatment team, and clients’ families. The counselor is expected to model honesty, accountability, dignity, respect, and other recovery principles in professional interactions.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid Virginia state licensure or certification necessary to practice in this role.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Manage the clinical needs, services, and aftercare for an assigned client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene in, and de-escalate crises.
• Document client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and clients’ families.
• Model ethics, morality, honesty, accountability, dignity, respect, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
