About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring counselors for a new inpatient extended care rehabilitation facility in Norfolk, Virginia. Avenues is a nationwide network of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers offering evidence-based, individualized treatment across detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient programs.

The Resident in Counseling develops individualized, evidence-based treatment plans and provides therapy to clients and their families. The role is responsible for the clinical needs, services, and aftercare of an assigned caseload, maintaining thorough documentation, responding to crises, and coordinating care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family. The counselor is expected to model recovery principles and demonstrate honesty, accountability, dignity, and respect in professional interactions.

Requirements

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Valid Virginia state licensure or certification required to practice in this role.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Take responsibility for the clinical needs, services, and aftercare of the client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene, and de-escalate during crises.
• Maintain documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family.
• Model ethics, morality, and recovery principles, including honesty, accountability, dignity, and respect.
