About The Position

The Resident Director (RD) is a full time, twelve-month live-in position within the Office of Residence Life and Housing. The RD responsibilities include oversight of a living and learning environment that supports the individual and group development of students in alignment with the College’s mission. The RD supervises a group of Resident Assistants (RAs) and is responsible for managing the operations of a residential community, which includes community development, occupancy management, resident satisfaction, safety, and educational opportunities. The RD also serves in an on-call rotation, responding to incidents of crisis that occur after hours and on weekends at the College.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of two years of leadership experience in residence life or related student facing departments preferred.
  • Should be self-directed, organized and enjoy working with students.
  • Must have understanding of values and expectations of a Jesuit liberal arts college.
  • Strong administrative skills and experience in residence life communities and educational programing is required.
  • Demonstrated intercultural, diversity and inclusion competencies and a commitment to working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource and support for the students and staff residing in assigned residence halls regarding a variety of issues including, but not limited to: college transition; academic and personal experiences; roommate and/or floor conflicts/challenges; mental health issues; safety, security and emergency procedures; and institutional and residential community policies, procedures and expectations.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate a student staff team (which may include Resident Assistants (RAs), Head Resident Assistants (HRAs), and student office assistants). Conduct weekly group staff meetings and meet with individual RAs and direct reports.
  • Manage and supervise residential facilities in a manner ensuring that they are clean, safe, well maintained and conducive to study.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation for the entire campus to respond to crisis situations or other problematic events.
  • Participate in and actively contribute to office and divisional initiatives such as RA Training, opening/closing of the halls, housing selection, Admitted Students Day, Commencement, Gateways Orientation, etc
  • Represent the office on various Residence Life & Housing and divisional committees.
  • Serve as a primary community standards officer for cases which occur in the RD's area. Take on additional cases as needed to balance the workload of other staff.
  • Serve as a CHOICES facilitator.
  • Promote awareness, inclusion and appreciation of cultural and lifestyle differences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
