Resettlement case management interns support the IRC resettlement team with daily work to welcome and promote the self-sufficiency of refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The IRC’s case management teams are an initial point of contact for newly arrived refugees and provide support, guidance, and continued integration assistance for up to five years after arrival. Interns work directly with individual clients and families to help deliver resettlement services. The Spring 2027 internship is hybrid, combining a standard office environment, remote work, and field time in the greater Baltimore area. It runs for 14 weeks, from the week of January 27, 2027 through May 16, 2027, and requires at least 15 hours per week. Interns should be able to work in the office at least three days per week. A required orientation is scheduled for January 27, approximately 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. IRC provides a laptop for the internship. The position is unpaid; university credit may be arranged. Interns may receive a $15-per-day per diem (defined as 7.5 hours) toward food and travel expenses and may be reimbursed for mileage for approved activities. Interns will learn about services available to refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants upon arrival in the United States, including Maryland public benefits and Baltimore-area resources; effective holistic case management; independent problem-solving in different situations; and cross-cultural communication with clients.
