About The Position

The Perkeybile Lab at the University of Virginia Department of Psychology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The lab's research focuses on how life experiences interact with neuroendocrine systems to influence developmental trajectories in social engagement, brain function, and health throughout the lifespan. They employ methods including complex social behavior measures, neuroendocrinology, neuroanatomy, and molecular genetics and epigenetics to investigate the impact of early life care on social behavior and neuropeptide systems, the development and changes in dyadic parenting interactions over time, and how pregnancy and birth affect maternal and infant brain physiology and behavior.

Requirements

  • PhD in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a closely related field by the appointment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with small animal research, including training in animal behavior quantification, immunohistochemistry, RIA/EIA measures of endocrine markers, receptor autoradiography, qPCR.
  • Experience working in prenatal and early postnatal development models.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring undergraduate research assistants in the lab.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
