About The Position

The University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate 1 to work in Coral Gables, FL. The Department of Psychology, in the College of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to join the laboratory of Dr. Amishi Jha engaging in neurobehavioral studies of mindfulness training in high-demand cohorts. The Research Associate 1, GAB supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or other related field.
  • No previous experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in programming and collecting data with cognitive neuroscience measures (behavioral tasks, EEG/FMRI).
  • Interest and prior experience in studies of attention and emotion regulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and work independently as well as with others in a team-based research environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of research methodology, basic statistics, and cognitive psychology or cognitive neuroscience.
  • One year of cumulative experimental psychology research experience preferred, with experience in cognitive tasks strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, or R.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the overall management, coordination, and execution of research projects.
  • Program experiments and collect, analyze, process, and present behavioral data.
  • Understand and interpret research protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintain an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensure all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keep abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collect, prepare, analyze, dissect, and evaluate specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Perform a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Perform calculations to complete research test results, collect data, and perform statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Support IRB process and clinical trial registration to ensure that the highest ethical standards are followed in research activities.
  • Provide lab tutorials and review work done by undergraduate research assistants.
  • Lab organization, management of basic lab functions (scheduling meetings, archiving, submitting expense reports etc).
  • High integrity and high conscientiousness for all research activities.
  • Assist with grant reports, manuscript and presentation preparation, including conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • Offsite travel for data collection.
  • Programming, collection, and analysis of neurobehavioral, ERP, and fMRI data.
