About The Position

RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, is seeking a Repair Design Intern for its Aftermarket Sustainment Engineering team. This internship offers a foundation to work on complex problems, advance skills, and contribute to a safer, more connected world. Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems, is looking for interns to help shape the future of aerospace and defense. The intern will be part of a multi-discipline Integrated Product Team (IPT) focused on establishing repair design requirements to ensure repairs are safe, durable, and meet OEM quality standards. Responsibilities include researching component operating environments and functionality, developing strategies to return damaged parts to service, and creating technical documents outlining engineering requirements for repairs. The intern will also participate in prototyping new repairs and ensuring engineering tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through completion of the internship session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship session.
  • Experience using computer aided design (CAD) software such as Unigraphics/NX, or equivalent 3D modeling software.
  • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish repair design requirements and ensure repairs are safe, durable, and meet the quality requirements of the Original Engineering Manufactured (OEM) parts.
  • Research operating environments and functionality of components, their interactions with mating parts, and develop strategies to return damaged parts back to service.
  • Create technical documents that will provide engineering requirements for repairs, including a high-level sequence of operations forming the basis for manufacturing operation sheets.
  • Participate in the prototyping of new repairs as needed.
  • Ensure engineering tasks are accomplished on schedule and within budget to the prescribed work scope.
