About The Position

PenBay is hiring motivated, computer-savvy Remote Pilot Operators to work at Boston ARTCC in Nashua, New Hampshire. No aviation experience is required, though it is helpful. The role uses a combination of a cathode ray tube (CRT), keyboard, and Voice Communication System (VCS) to simulate pilot actions and communications with remote air traffic control facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive voice commands from students, enter appropriate information into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, interpret displayed information using appropriate air traffic control terminology, and respond through the VCS using proper phraseology. This is not a UAS, UAV, or RPV pilot/operator position. Remote Pilot Operators must become laboratory certified within 120 calendar days of reporting to the facility. Certification includes passing knowledge tests for each supported area or sector with a score of at least 70%, observing a certified RPO, FAA employee, or contractor instructor during at least five simulation scenarios, and completing on-the-job training on at least five and no more than twenty scenarios for each control position supported. An FAA representative observes the RPO’s performance and determines whether certification is granted.
