Remote Pilot Operator

PenBay Technology Group•Warwick, RI

About The Position

PenBay is hiring motivated, computer-savvy Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs). No aviation experience is required, though it is helpful. The RPO operates a combination of Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), keyboard, and Voice Communication System (VCS) to simulate the actions and communications of pilots and remote air traffic control facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive voice commands from students, enter the appropriate information into an automated system to simulate pilot actions, interpret displayed information using appropriate ATC terminology, and respond to students through the VCS using proper phraseology. This is not a UAS, UAV, or RPV pilot/operator position. Two full-time positions are available. RPOs must become laboratory certified within 120 calendar days of reporting to the facility. Certification involves passing knowledge tests for each supported area or sector with a score of at least 70%, observing a certified RPO, FAA employee, or contractor instructor during at least five simulation scenarios, and completing on-the-job training on five to twenty scenarios per supported control position. An FAA representative observes the RPO's performance and determines whether certification is granted. Candidates are subject to FAA security screening.
