Remote Pilot Operator

Penbay Technology Group LLC•Warwick, RI

About The Position

PenBay is hiring two full-time Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs). The RPO operates a combination of cathode ray tube (CRT), keyboard, and Voice Communication System (VCS) equipment to simulate pilot actions and communications with remote air traffic control facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive voice commands from students, enter the appropriate information into an automated system to simulate pilot actions, interpret displayed information using appropriate air traffic control terminology, and respond to students through the VCS using proper phraseology. No aviation experience is required, though it is helpful. Computer operator, RPO, air traffic control specialist, or student pilot experience is highly desirable. Candidates with aviation coursework, terminal radar or en route lab certification, or working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65 are preferred. This is not a UAS, UAV, or RPV pilot/operator position. RPOs must complete laboratory certification within 120 calendar days of reporting to the facility. Certification includes knowledge and skills tests for each supported area or sector. Knowledge tests require a score of at least 70%. Skills preparation includes observing a certified RPO, FAA employee, or contractor instructor during at least five simulation scenarios, followed by on-the-job training on at least five and no more than twenty scenarios for each supported control position. An FAA representative observes the RPO's performance and determines whether certification is granted. Candidates are subject to FAA security screening.
