About The Position

PenBay is seeking motivated, computer-savvy Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs). Aviation experience is not required, though it is helpful. This is not a UAS, UAV, or RPV pilot/operator position. The role is based at Boston ARTCC in Nashua, New Hampshire, and is full-time. The salary is $26.74 per hour. The RPO operates a combination of a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), keyboard, and Voice Communication System (VCS) to simulate pilot actions and communications with remote air traffic control facilities during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises. RPOs receive voice commands from students, enter appropriate information into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, interpret displayed information using appropriate ATC terminology, and respond to students through the VCS using proper phraseology. RPOs must complete laboratory certification within 120 calendar days of reporting to the facility. Certification includes knowledge and skills tests for each area or sector supported. Knowledge tests must be passed with a score of at least 70%. Candidates who pass the knowledge tests proceed to skills training, which includes observing a certified RPO, FAA employee, or contractor instructor in at least five simulation scenarios and receiving on-the-job training in at least five and no more than 20 scenarios for each control position supported. An FAA representative observes the RPO's performance and determines whether certification will be granted. Candidates are subject to FAA security screening.
