About The Position
Vetco, a division of Petco, is seeking independent veterinary contractors to provide relief services at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care Hospitals. Veterinarians select their shifts through flexible online booking, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and set their own rate for each shift. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians may continue other practice activities outside their Vetco shifts. There are no agency fees. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion. They do not provide surgeries, emergency care, or sick visits. Trained staff manage operations and transactions and assist with safely restraining pets. Clinics are located inside Petco retail locations. Vetco Total Care Hospital shifts include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Before shifts, veterinarians coordinate with the area medical director to review case comfort levels. Hospitals have digital patient records, a surgical suite, handheld ultrasound imaging, digital and dental X-ray, radiograph interpretation AI, and on-site laboratories. Hospital shifts do not include overnights or emergency on-call duties. Both settings use an appointment-based model to help manage patient traffic. Colorado state bid rates average $89.00–$112.00 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration. Vetco serves 48 states, with additional locations opening soon.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Nice To Haves
- DEA registration in good standing is preferred for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care Hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion.
- At Total Care Hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate to the veterinarian's comfort level.
- Coordinate with the area medical director before hospital shifts to review case comfort levels.
