About The Position

This position is for a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach DTI6103: User Research during the Winter 2027 semester. The course focuses on understanding user behaviors, needs, motivations, and challenges in user experience (UX). It covers common user research methods such as interviews, surveys, focus groups, and contextual inquiries, as well as principles for generative and evaluative research. The curriculum includes qualitative and quantitative research methods, tools and techniques for in-person and remote research, and moderated vs. automated approaches, along with heuristic evaluations and usability testing.

Requirements

PhD in Psychology, or related discipline with a thesis in User Experience (UX).
Three to five years of industry experience demonstrating mastery of current practice and theory in all aspects of user research as it relates to UX design.
Expert knowledge of user behavior theories and common user research methods.
Expert knowledge of tools and techniques for research, evaluation, and testing.
Significant experience managing and mentoring multi-disciplinary user research projects involving individuals with diverse backgrounds (technology, psychology, creative arts, management).

Responsibilities

Teach User Research (DTI6103) during the Winter 2027 semester.
Cover topics including user behaviors, needs, motivations, and challenges in UX.
Instruct on common user research methods (interviews, surveys, focus groups, contextual inquiries).
Explain principles and guidelines for generative & evaluative research.
Teach methods in qualitative and quantitative user research.
Cover tools and techniques for in-person and remote research, and moderated vs. automated approaches.
Instruct on heuristic evaluations and usability testing.
