About The Position

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa is seeking a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach Introduction to Qualitative Methodology (SOC2315, Section B00) during the Winter 2027 semester. This course provides a historical overview of qualitative inquiry techniques and research paradigms, introduces different approaches and the iterative principle of qualitative research, and offers a practical introduction to common data production methods, organization, and preliminary analysis (interview, observation, document and media analysis). Emphasis will be placed on rigor criteria, ethical issues, and researcher reflexivity.

Requirements

  • M.A. in sociology and completed sociology Ph.D. coursework or more advanced training in sociology.
  • Demonstrable track record of expertise in the field of qualitative studies (previous teaching experience in the same or similar course or through publications).
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of NVivo and the ability to teach it.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Qualitative Methodology (SOC2315, Section B00).
  • Provide a historical overview of qualitative inquiry techniques and research paradigms.
  • Introduce different approaches and the iterative principle of qualitative research.
