About The Position

This position is for a Regular Part-Time Professor to teach SOC3316 A00: Statistical Analysis in Sociology during the Fall 2026 semester. The course provides an overview of principal statistical analysis methods and their sociological applications, focusing on the articulation of theory and empirical evidence, critical analysis of social quantification, and the limits of data and methods. Topics include descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis, causality, mediation, multiple linear regression, weighting, inference, and estimation quality evaluation, with an introduction to statistical software. The course is taught in English and is in-person.

Requirements

  • M.A. in sociology and completed sociology Ph.D. coursework or a more advanced training in sociology.
  • Demonstrable track record of expertise in the field of quantitative studies (previous teaching experience in the same or similar course or through publications).
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of SPSS and the ability to teach it.
  • Competence in second language: Passive.
  • All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Statistical Analysis in Sociology (SOC3316 A00) during the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Provide an overview of principal methods of statistical analysis and their appropriate use in sociology.
  • Articulate theory and empirical evidence in the construction of a sociological argument.
  • Foster a critical outlook on the quantification of social phenomena and on the limits of data and methods.
  • Cover statistical treatment of data: descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis, causality, mediation and multiple linear regression.
  • Introduce weighting, inference, and evaluation of the quality of estimates.
  • Teach students to use statistical software.
  • Conduct the course in English and in person.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
