About The Position

This course provides an in-depth look at the principles of qualitative research. The primary objectives of the course are an introduction to contemporary qualitative methodologies and computer-assisted qualitative analysis. Using existing data such as interviews, documents, or digital data, students will practice the principles of qualitative analysis while consolidating their understanding of research paradigms and approaches and the reflexivity of the researcher. Students will be introduced to the writing of an analytical report according to the rigorous criteria of sociological writing.

Requirements

  • M.A. in sociology and completed sociology Ph.D. coursework or a more advanced training in sociology.
  • Demonstrable track record of expertise in the field of qualitative studies (previous teaching experience in the same or similar course or publications in the field).
  • Practical knowledge of NVivo and the ability to teach it.
  • Competence in the second language (Passive).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Qualitative Analysis (SOC3315 B00) during the 2027 Winter Semester.
  • Introduce students to contemporary qualitative methodologies and computer-assisted qualitative analysis.
  • Guide students in practicing qualitative analysis using existing data (interviews, documents, digital data).
  • Consolidate students' understanding of research paradigms, approaches, and researcher reflexivity.
  • Instruct students on writing analytical reports according to rigorous sociological criteria.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
