About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access rural health facility with 25 inpatient beds in Paris, Illinois, and outpatient clinic settings in Paris and surrounding cities. The Registration Representative II is trained to work in clinic registration areas across patient service departments. The role establishes patient accounts; gathers billing, insurance, and guarantor information; collects co-pays and past patient balances; and maintains a balanced cash drawer. The representative keeps current on insurance information and changes, obtains required signatures, directs patients to appropriate departments, and promptly notifies nursing staff of potentially critical patients. All collected information must be kept confidential in accordance with HIPAA. The position may involve variable hours and floating to another clinic location to meet organizational needs. The listed responsibilities are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

At least one year of general office experience.
Excellent customer service skills.
Completed clinic training competencies.

Nice To Haves

High school graduation is preferred.
Previous healthcare experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Register patients and obtain personal, insurance, and other information required for tracking and billing.
Verify insurance coverage with carriers or employers through payer websites.
Schedule patient appointments for providers as necessary.
Answer basic insurance and financial questions and direct more complex questions to the appropriate department.
Collect co-pays and outstanding patient balances and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
Assist with answering patient and staff calls.
Escalate patient concerns to the lead or patient service supervisor.
Obtain appropriate patient signatures and direct patients to the appropriate department for services.
Immediately notify nursing staff of a potentially critical patient.
Keep collected information confidential in accordance with HIPAA.
Work variable hours and/or float to another clinic location as organizational needs require.
